Use the income transcript as a starting point for finding your original documents. You can contract previous employers, brokers, and other financial institutions to obtain copies of your original tax documents. Original documents can contain more information compared to what's found on the income transcript. For example, the IRS doesn't show any state-related tax withholdings on its transcripts. Similarly, if your income transcript shows you sold some investments, you may want to contact your broker to obtain more detailed account history information.

Applicants will have to show proof of identification, provide two years of state income tax filings, and pass a written and a driving exam before getting the license, known as a federally non-compliant driver's license/ID.
Before the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, Maryland had allowed thousands of residents -- both undocumented immigrants and U.S. citizens without birth certificates to hold limited driver's licenses. The state had stopped issuing new licenses to those groups, although those who had them already were grandfathered in.
Now, immigrants with foreign documentation, but lacking valid U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services documents, will be able to get licenses beginning Jan. 1.
The first step is to schedule an appointment, which undocumented workers can begin making Monday, said Philip Dacey, a spokesperson for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. The MVA won't accept walk-in applicants for the new licenses.
Advocacy group CASA de Maryland has launched an education program to help guide immigrants through the process of obtaining licenses.
"It's not like you're going to move here and wait for two years to get a driver's license," said Maryland Sen. Victor Ramirez, who introduced the bill, known as the Maryland Highway Safety Act of 2013. "If you don't have a job, if you don't have a family, then Maryland isn't your home."
The Maryland state legislature passed the bill in early spring, adding Maryland to a growing list of states -- New Mexico, Washington, Utah and Illinois allowing the second-tier licenses. Since then, California and Connecticut have passed similar bills.
In addition, the D.C. Council is expected to vote Tuesday on the issue.
Supporters of the new law in Maryland have said the licenses will reduce the likelihood of hit-and-run accidents, and will take the burden off families who may have only one, or no, legal drivers.
Andrea Gonzalez, a U.S. citizen, told News4 earlier this year she's the only one in her family who can drive legally. She drives her husband, an undocumented immigrant, to work each day.
"[I have to] drive him where he gets picked up for work, and then to drive my daughter to school, then to drive myself to work," Gonzalez said. Earlier this year, she broke some toes and had to drive herself to the hospital, she said.
But opponents of the new law have argued that the bill could encourage more undocumented immigrants to move to Maryland.
Del. Kelly Schulz told News4 earlier this year that her constituents didn't want the law to be changed, saying immigrants here without documentation shouldn't be granted the same privileges as those who are.
"They're undocumented; they're here illegally according to the federal government," Schulz said. "We're providing them with some state-issued benefit."
Effective January 1, 2014, the MVA will implement a new process for immigrants, presenting foreign documentation without valid accompanying United States Citizenship and Immigration Services documentation, to obtain a driver's license (DL) or identification card (ID).

Also effective January 1, 2014, all Identification Cards, new Type 1 GLS Learner's Permits, and any Federally Non-Compliant DL/IDs will be mailed to your Maryland residence address on file.

Important Information Regarding Residency Documents/Exceptions
NOTE: The address on the applicants Maryland residency sources must match the residence address on the application. A post office box may be used only in conjunction with a residents address if it is in the same ZIP Code area. The use of a private mail drop or other commercial address is not permitted.
Internet printouts of statements may be accepted for proof of residence; ex: bank statement, utility bills (for accounts that applicants primarily handle online). The statement MUST reflect applicants name and residential address.
NOTE: Exceptions to the residency requirements may apply:
An inmate or former inmate, the MVA may accept: an Order of Parole, Order of Mandatory Release, or an address certification issued by the Administration and signed and dated by DPSC official, dated within 60 days of release; or
Homeless or a resident of a nursing home, the MVA will accept: certification from nursing homes and homeless service providers under certain conditions for proof of residency.
A dependent (may be of any age); the MVA may accept a certified statement of residency from the parent or guardian, signed in the presence of a MVA official. Satisfactory proof of identity, Maryland residency, and relationship of the parent or guardian to the applicant is required, documentation to prove the applicant is a dependent of the parent or guardian is also required such as:
Federal or MD income tax filing, not more than 18 months old,
Military ID card that lists the dependent,
Health insurance policy/card that lists the dependent,
Letter on official letterhead from a School,
Official court documentation.
Additional Information Regarding Document Sources
The source document(s) must be the original, (if multiple pages, all pages must be present) certified copy, or true test copy from the issuing agency. Photocopies, notarized copies, and documents with alterations, erasures, and tears are not acceptable. If the document is damaged, or overly worn to the degree that it cannot be authenticated, the applicant may be required to obtain a replacement document.
Applicant's full legal name must be consistent on all documents. If the name on the age and identity source is different from the current full legal name, supporting documentation is required (e.g. marriage certificate, divorce decree, certified court order of name change). If there are discrepancies or mismatches in the name as used on the documents, the applicant may be required to obtain corrected documentation.
Apostrophes & Hyphens
The MVA has permitted the use of an Apostrophe (') in a persons name when they are processed for a drivers license, learners permit or identification (ID) card since 2010, and it also permits the use of a Hyphen (-), however, this ability has not been widely publicized due to computer compatibility issues.
An apostrophe and/or hyphen can be added to a customers name in a New, Renewal or Corrected MVA product as long as the customer provides the MVA with acceptable documentary evidence to support the use of the apostrophe and/or hyphen (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.). The placement of these punctuation marks/signs must be done in accordance with the name as displayed on the customers documentary support.
Notes:
1. The MVA will typically ONLY accept a Marriage Certificate or a Certificate of Marriage that has been certified and issued by that jurisdictions proper government authority, such as their Department of Vital Records/Statistics or their local or state court system.
2. Effective January 1, 2013, the State of Maryland passed a law that authorized the issuance of a marriage license to same-sex couples, to allow their marriage ceremonies to begin on the effective date of January 1, 2013. The license does not validate the marriage, therefore once the marriage ceremony has taken place, a certified copy of the marriage certificate must be obtained to present to the MVA if a name change is requested.
o The MVA also recognizes a Same-Sex marriage (civil union) that was performed in another jurisdiction that has passed and enacted similar legislation.
Minor applicants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is responsible for cosigning the minor's application. The cosigner must provide acceptable proof of relationship to the minor. Examples of acceptable documentation to prove relationship may be a birth certificate, court order or current tax return which shows dependency.
When a minor is committed to the custody or guardianship of a local Department of Social Services (DSS), the Director of the Department or the Director's Designee, is authorized to co-sign the application, even if DSS has limited guardianship.
In addition to identity requirements, the DSS Director or Designee should provide the following which must be scanned into the DLS application:
1. Original (with seal) court document reflecting that the minor is committed to or under the custody of DSS. A computerized copy without a seal or signature is NOT acceptable. The original court document may be limited and is NOT required to have any specific or general statement authorizing DSS to co-sign the minor's MVA application.
2. The DSS employee's State Identification Card (work ID.) A driver's license is not required.
3. The address used on the DLS application should be the address of the local DSS office reflected on t he certified court order.
